Of course the DotNetNuke team can make changes to any part of the core framwork and i am sorry if i caused offence in any way!!

Intresting:

"Make a clone", are you suggesting that i can have two of say the login.asxc but name my one differently.  Could anyone tell me how i do this.  I mean make a copy, change my one and then make DNN reference my own.

Please and thanks for the replys.

if you have issues to access your portal after an upgrade, please make sure, that you have preserved the encryption keys from previously used web.config. If you accidently have no option to access it with your host portal, please follow these instructions.

you can create your own login control and embed in in a custom module or skin object. The skinobject needs to have a different token, e.g. [MyLogin], that needs to be used in HTML skins, the custom control can be placed on a page and the page assigned as login page in portal settings.

So far I stated it as 'fixed' that this question was already answered before (Paul Sellers). I meant that the question regarding the machine key, it must copied before when you overwrite the web.config file. You paste then the copied key over the same passage and run your update.
