I am having some problems with some modules in dnn which seem to go away when I use "restart application" under the host settings.  What does this option do?  I am running dnn in a web farm, so I'm not sure which server I am restarting (or if I am restarting both) and what exactly is "restarted"?

Thanks

The restart application simply 'touches' the web.config (via a File.SetLastWriteTime(Common.Globals.ApplicationMapPath & "\web.config", System.DateTime.Now), so it's server specific. This simply forces the application domain to unload and a new one to be created. Unless you have some sort of file synconisation in your web farm, this would only occur on your 'active' server.

Ah ok, that sounds simple enough.  We do have file synchronization so that should help.  We are working on a method to restart the worker process in iis, do you have any idea of a way to do that (or know of any good online resources for accomplishing this) through ASP .net?  Right now we are using a patchwork solution that runs a batch file in response to an email notification on the server to do this.

Maybe the question I should ask Is this even necessary if touching the web.config file restarts the application?

Thanks
