MISMonkey, you will find old_Default.aspx in the root folder of your site. I think the only thing you have to do is to move away the Default .aspx in the root folder and rename old_Default.aspx to Default.aspx. I will post more info when I have finished my upgrade.

Cheers
ArntK

I think my earlier statement:

" In the child portals Default.aspx and old_Default.aspx is both the wrong one. To get a child portal to load I copied over the working old_Default.aspx from the host site and renamed it. I also had to copy over Default.aspx.vb before the child portal would load."

is wrong.

The Default.aspx in the child portals is correct. It is only in the host site the Default.aspx was wrong. The Default.aspx in the host site was the same as in the child portals, so it seems the upgrade package meant my host site was a child portal.

So how does the upgrade know the difference between the host site and the child portals?

Hope this helps.
Thanks ArntK

ArntK,

Renaming old_default.aspx worked!

The site now will load..

Unfortunately, most of the modules do not work..

I get the error "module name is currently unavailable"

When I try to login I get

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. I believe that there may be something amiss in my web.config..

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks again

ArntK and MISMonkey,

As we all seem to agree that this is a bug in the install that causes the wrong Default.aspx to be placed for the host portal, I reported this bug in:

http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=5799

I hope this will help solve this problem for other people.
