Hi John,

My intention was to highlight that DNN has a great support team which does react in a timely manner to the community. I certainly do not want to start off a negative thread.

I apologise if my comments were misleading.

Tony

Unless I missed it (because I read quite rapidly all posts at once) I did not see any reference that maybe, just maybe, Joomla adoption is due to the fact that it runs on Linux.

Be aware that having 80% of world population is poor. Running whatever on Windows is expensive. So, economic laws may rule this Joomla choice.Downloads are not a good argument to sustain preference. Nor the number of members in a site.

I am following DNN since before the name change and started following Joomla last year. I see DNN evolving more rapidly.

Database providers are a strong appeal for both products. Joomla have not come up with a solution for other db than MySQL in two years. And it seems it will take one more.

Module choices in Joomla seem to be broader that in DNN.  However, developing a module for Joomla is not as easy  as in DNN. Abstraction of DB in DNN is better than in Joomla.

AJAX integration in DNN is coming up faster than in Joomla. Client experience while browsing a site is important.

Site administration is easier in DNN.

***

I think what DNN could be missing is ability to run in other operating systems. Although there are efforts in that direction with Grasshoper product, C# DNN, and Mono Project.

Argument ad-hominem is an argumentation mistake. Although highly effecticve in creating advocacy, denotes a lack to support one thesis. My virtual friends: do not try to make a point by flaming others.

Wow, I learnt alot in this post... different perspectives and points of view. And I also learnt contributing honestly has a doubled edged sword... on this forum... this is how you get your moderator status removed...  I used to be able to moderate, but today - it appears that I must be untrustworthy so, so much so that I'm not able to assist at moderating any more, I think there is a bit of paranoid behaviour going on here...

My blogs have been removed from here, my posts deleted without being told, now, moderator status removed..... what's next...  accidently deleting my user name.. so all my efforts will have been eroded..  .. or am I being paranoid...

All ~ Please accept my apologies for hijacking this thread momentarily.

Nina ~

I apologize for removing your moderator privileges without talking to you about that... but there is nothing to be paranoid about.  I do find it hard to reach out to you, despite the many hours that we have worked together (both helping each other with various things), I don't seem to be able to reach past that paranoia that you mention.

The change of status has nothing to do with your posting.  You've only moderated 32 posts since December (only 3 in the last month), so I really did not expect this to be so dramatic?  Although if I had been acting like a gentleman (hard when you're doing forums maintenance at 3am) I would have dropped you a note.  I should have done that, I'm sorry.

I remember when my own moderator status was removed from asp.net (I was not moderating actively enough either).  Once I got over the initial sting of pride, I had to agree that it simply made sense.

I really enjoyed your post here, by the way.  Good read.

Scott

Thanks Scott - I just got this emailed to me from a core teamer who said something about posts - I think this was a 'snapshot' of the top moderators overall as of last week?  So, thought it might show the relevance of moderation and putting things into perspective..  I believe it's correct unless they're emailing me something that's fabricated, perhaps you can confirm, and if it is just jargon, I apologise.

But looking here, I'm not sure what classifies enough committement - top 3 doesn't appear to mean anything does it.

But then again these figures could be completely made up - I do think it shows some substance Scott, and I appreciate your apology but when you complain about no contributors...more help required... not enough testhing being done... and working in the 'open source' manner does show some odd behaviour directed towards me... and.. perhaps you'd like to email me about where the blogs are...

That's all I'll say on this matter since it is off topic, but feel that I too need to put into perspective how I see things, when you look at these moderation and contribution totals, it's substantial.
