If your control works, I thinkthere is no problem. The reason why I'm concerned about the SkinObject option is that in theory we have to install the skinobjects in the "Skin Objects" module. This way, we can put TOKENS in our skins and they will be installed automatically.

That is what I was saying. DNN360 allows you to install its side menu as a module and/or as a skin object. So I did not realize when I installed the skinobject portion in DNN 4.5.3 that it tagged it as a VIEW control type. But it still worked even though it did not show up in the skinobjects list.

Here is the code I put in the skin to take advantage of the skin object.

<%@ Register TagPrefix="dnn" TagName="DNN360Menu" src="~/desktopmodules/CISS.SideMenu/SideMenu.ascx" %>

<dnn:DNN360Menu runat="server" id="dnnYourID" ConfigFile="default.xml"/>

So it installed it correctly and it worked in the skin. To get it to show up in the list, make the db changed I mentioned in my first post and it will change the Control Type from View (0) to Skin Object (-2).

This should work for you.
