I just checked andchanged the SMTP server from mail.mydomain.com to my web host's smtp server with userid and password; it is working now!!!

Your issue is different than the original post, and there will never be a DNN fix for it.  Your problem is that the destination mailbox doesn't exist.  No amount of programming or changes to your DNN setup will ever make the destination mailbox exist, and unless you control the destination server you can't create a new mailbox for the account.  The program is working as designed, because the new user can't validate when they use a bogus email account.
