The Events module has the ability to populate a Parent Events module from one or more Child Events modules.
I am currently working on a portal for a company intranet site where it would be really useful to be able to populate a parent Announcements module from multiple child modules.
To provide an example, I would envisage having the parent module displayed on the home page of the intranet portal. Various departments would then have their own child modules on their own department pages. When the child modules on the departmental pages are populated the Parent module would also populate.
In addition to this it would also be advantageous to ensure that viewing privileges for the announcements would carry through from the child to the parent. As we have multiple sales channels in our business, an announcement for one sales channel may not be applicable for another. Therefore if an announcement was posted for the retail sales channel, in an announcements module that only the retail sales channel had viewing privileges for, when the parent module was viewed by a member of one of the other sales channel groups, the announcement would not appear.
And finally, within the setup of the child modules, it would be advantageous to specify how many announcements could appear on the parent module. With 7 seperate departments along with 6 seperate sales channels, if each was able to publish 10 announcements the parent module would be overloaded with information. By limiting it, it would provide the ability to ensure that the content level is managable.
I would be keen to get some feedback on this idea from users of the announcements module and also from the members of the project team.
Thanks.
