I am going to call a ASPX page and open it in a new window and I want to pass a session variable to it., but when I read the session variable from the ASPX, that I had set in my custom module,  the session variable is empty.

It is as if the DNN system has session variables and the page I called has a different set of session variables.

Any ideas.

thanks,

Dean

Sometimes with session if you open a new window the browser will actually create a new session id and ASP.NET doesn't see it as the same session.

Is it something you can pass as a querystring value?

I am trying to do a similar thing. I am needing to pass over the Login name from DNN to my application. Does DNN store the login in a session variable and if so what is the Session variable?

Also is it better the create an assembly of your application and install it as a DNN Module or to hang a link off of your DNN page and pass the Login name over in the URL?

The Core does not recommend using session variables. In order to support web farm and shared hosting environments we don't use them in the Core or any of the Core modules. Believe me this throws people for a loop when they start working on a official DotNetNuke project and find out they cant use session variables!

Here what does work: Module Settings and Personalization: Easily Store Data for Your Module (VB &C#)
