My understanding is that now that Chris has a new version it will re-enter the release tracker process and will attempt again to be approved by the core team for distribution. http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/ProjectReleaseTracking/tabid/997/ctl/History/mid/3337/ItemID/164/Default.aspx is a link that you can use to see where the forum module currently sites in that process.

I would say that IF all goes well we are CLOSER to a release!
