What is the best way to develop modules in ASP.NET 2.0 and DNN v4.x?  I am struggling with how things should be organized because things in VS2005 are different from VS2003 (where I am very comfortable doing module development).

I am not concerned about being backwards compatible with .NET 1.1.

Thanks,
Rob

If you install the Starter Kit and create a Module from the Add Item command).  Run the command at the root of the website, the template will show you how to develop a Module in DNN4.

Shaun published a post on the forums at asp.net which should help.

You can also develop modules like in .NET 1.1 and VS2003 if you use the new(old) Web Application Model. This was the way from VS2003 and it was now also available for .NET 2.0 and VS2005. For more information follow the links:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/asp.net/reference/infrastructure/wap/default.aspx

http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2005/12/16/433374.aspx

On this way you can also simple upgrade .NET 1.1 DNN Modules to .NET 2.0!

FYI - if you want to "build" using the mode that shaun described (rather than the VS2003 procedure), it doesn't take long to "upgrade" your old modules.  It took me 1 hr to convert Links, Announcments and HTML to work in the new mode (plus reworking the code to use the new DNN4 Generic version of FillObject and FillCollection).

With the new Web Application Model NO conversion was needed an you can develop your modules without using the DNN Starterkit.
