This is the only error message that I continue to get after attempting a fresh install.  I never got any messages stating that the portal was installed.   I have modified and re-uploaded the webconfig several times.  If you tell me how, I will more than happy to send you my webconfig file.

Hello all you DotNetNukers. I felt compelled to offer a small token here to anyone who has been struggling with an install on Godaddy with 4.0.3 and Sql. I have read everything on the web, installed, uninstalled, memorized the dictionary, said the alphabet backwards and forwards, while standing on my head, and i just can't get it to install. I have gotten every error listed in this forum. I too wanted the install at the root so as to avoid the dreaded www.mywebsite.com/dotnetnuke subdirectory issue. I have now downloaded and installed a redirect script into the root folder. It isn't what i wanted, but it allows redirection to the main domain without any subdirectories. In case anyone is interested, this is the link... http://www.dotdesk.com/portal/Downloads/tabid/177/Default.aspx ...scroll down to the post "ASP 301 Redirect for Multiple Domains", the directions are self explanatory..

Based on some emails I have received of late there seems to be some confussion caused by the previous post of installing to a subdirectory and using a redirect script.  While helpful, it completely negates the whole point of this thread an my instructions which is to install to the root directory.  There should be no need for a redirect script and installing the the root directory of a shared hosting account works just fine.  I performed this with a 4.03 version recently and it worked just fine.

The only issue I found was that the virtual folders needed to be created after the website framework was uploaded to the root folder.  This is different from before where you could create the virtual folders ahead of time.

The most common problems people seem to be having are:

  •  Incorrectly uploaded files, this can be caused by corruption in the transmission.
  • Missing web.config and/or site.url files
  • Improperly configured connection strings.

That's all fine and dandy there Mike, but for whatever reasons...I couldn't get it to install.  I tried every combination under the sun, and like i said, I couldn't get it to install. I appreciate your's and everyone's input here, and my post was simply a token to those others out there who can't get it to install. The re-direct script is a solution that will work for whoever wants to go that route. It simply offers an alternative. That's it. It doesn't negate anything anyone else has said in this thread, and by all means, keep trying to get it to install to the root if you have the time and patience.
