Thanks Michael,

Yes, I know about page compiles, but my performance issues occur even after the pages have been accessed numerous times.   My conclusion is that it is the luck of the draw what server you get put on initially by Godaddy, and how many other users are also being hosted there and their activity.  A tech support rep. did admit that they move customers around as they track their usage statistics, but unfortunately that means when you are first introducing the site, performance will suck until you get more traffic (which is hard to do because the performance sucks).

I did access my site around 3:00am one night and the performance was pretty good.  Hmmm... seems like an overloaded server to me.

I welcome any other users experiences with DNN + GoDaddy.

thanks

Is your time worth money?  Try a different hosting provider.

Michael/NSS.com collects a spiff for referals to Godaddy, so if you follow the money, you see why he's so pro-one site.

I like Godaddy for domains, but can not stand them for DNN hosting.  Their system is too locked down, seriously limiting the performance of DNN.  I have a couple of parked DNN domains, but if you switch to a host that understands DNN and supports all of its functions, it's like night and day.  You'll LOVE DNN.

Are you interested in google traffic?  I couldn't get one page indexed when my site was on Godaddy.  Now I  have more than 700+ pages Google indexed.   Michael/NSS.com has 4 pages.  Not 400, 4.

I could not get this manual install to work, I followed all the directions at http://www.northernstarsolutions.com//tabid/61/Default.aspx ,but once I got it all done I went to install and it said it didn't have the permission to write to the web.config. I ended up just creating a subdirectory called dnn and running the install and now my root automatically takes me to /dnn so how the hell do you get this to work, I just went through 53 pages of posts and some people get it to work, some don't. Is it even worth it? If the application can't write to web.config then you can't install new modules, do you have to have your own copy running on your PC, do the changes, then upload the code to godaddy? Anyone?

Please note that the current instructions are for version 4.3.7.  I have not had time to update them to the latest version where there is an additional virtual folder permission required and a config file that needs to be copied into the root directory.

Thanks to Adrian for the information.

How much is your time worth?  NO, it is not worth it.  If you'd switch to anyone of several hosting providers, DNN would be an automatic install. No copying files, no modifying web.config, full access, ability to upload/create/edit from the www root folder.

On Michael's page (he's getting a spiff for Godaddy hosting recommendations), his own poll shows that 69% of the people can not get his instructions to work.

Stop wasting your time. Godaddy hosting for DNN sucks.  Even if you get the program running, there are too many sites on the GoDaddy servers, so you'll never show up in Google indexing/rankings.  Too many sites on the same c-block is a BIG no-no for google.
