I have restored the old web.config, but still the portals will not come up & getting :
[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.GetPortalSettings(Int32 TabId, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +91
DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings..ctor(Int32 tabId, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +82
DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule.OnBeginRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) +2677
System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +92
System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +64
Seems as though it cannot find portal alias, even though I have gone into the SQL Server and ran the Stored Proc and it comes back with the portal ID ????

Can anyone help??

Cheers

Dan

Thanks, it seems as though it was using instances and was logging in as the aspnet user and that was the new setup using instances, when I have changed the login details and they seem correct, the system just hangs when I try to go to the default portal, get errors in event viewer about process threads being dropped???

Cheers

Dan,

If the error you are getting is a "Thread aborting error" and you never get an error page when trying to pull up your site you can try the following.

In the HostSettings table update the value for the "SchedulerMode" setting name to be either 0 or 2, my guess is that it is currently set to 1 on your portal.  Then restart IIS and see if the site comes back up.

I had a client with a similar issue earlier this week, the site never loaded and never errored and there were errors in the event log.  it appears to be a multi threading issue within IIS.  That at least resolved my clients issue, below is a listing of what those values mean for the "SchedulerMode" setting:

0 = off
1 = Timer Method
2 = request method
