I am sorry to report that the uploading of skins is still  works intermittently with version 4.0.3.

Here are some of my findings so far...
1.  Definitely related to machine resource (or lack of it).  More specifically, on my dev machine with only 384MB ram runing SQL server 2000, SQL 2005, and IIS, and VS2005 with couple of IE and Firefox browsers instances opened, running DNN 4.0.3 under debug mode, going to Host/Skins to upload skin will fail consistently with no error messages logged. It just goes right back to the Host/Skins page.
2.  The log viewer does show Application Shutting Down followed by Applacation Started for each failed skin upload.
Date Log Type Username Portal Summary

3.  If I try to upload skin the same way, but with VS2005 closed, skin upload proceeds normally echoing the status of each step in uploading the skin.

Well.  I 'fixed' it

I added

requestLengthDiskThreshold="12192000"

to the httpRuntime element.  So I'm guessing it has something to do with failing to persist the request to disk (default size is 256 BYTES).

I'll try several more uploads to make sure though.

Making this setting does improve my test results significantly.

Yup - that fixed it for me too.  I had shut down my PC for the day, came back this evening, read the post and tried it and it worked like a charm (loaded in the Forums module).

Funny little problem, luckily I don't have to load much onto the site.

Dean.

Same thing here.

The only new information that I can add is that after clicking the "add" link in the upload file page an Application restart is logged, so this is the reason for not uploading the data.

So, now the question is: why is the application restarting ?

requestLengthDiskThreshold="12192000" did not do it for me either. I have simply resorted to dropping the modules in the /install/modules folder for the time being
