Experimenting with the ThingsForSale walkthrough I found that if the key value was set e.g. to ThingsForSale then when teh control is added to a page it is not visible.  When I go back and remove teh key value and make it blank, the controls appear.

Bug or something I don't understand?

That is the intended behavior. Please review the Module Developer's Guide in the Documentation section under resources.

Thanks for the reply.  I checked the module developer's guide parts I and II and couldn't find a section either on resources or these particular keys for module control definitions.  Perhaps there is some other document I am missing.  (I checked the one on the Resources | Documentation page from www.dotnetnuke.com.

Suspecting you were pointing me to a resource file I then noticed that the quick tutorials I am using (really helpful starters from Michael Washington) do not have app_local resources directories, while controls generated by the full blown wizard do.  In fact the tutorials I am using instruct me to put a key in the control definition, but when I do the module is never visible until I go back and remove the key, leaving it blank.

Can someone explain further?  Or point me to documentation that explains how to use the keys in a tutorial such as ThingsForSale where I am currently having problems?

Thanks for any help.

When a module is displayed the control that does NOT have a key is the item that is displayed by default.  You can then switch to different views later using different control keys.
