Hi,

I have used the blog module for a long time on my PokerDIY poker blog, but the time has come to allow some of my users to post blog entries.

My main requirement is that there is a single blog page (the link above) and the display is seamless to the user. They just want an RSS feed of posts and if they look carefully they'll notice that the author is different on some posts.

So, from what I have read from the pinned thread - there are 2 possible configurations:

1) A single blog with multiple authors. From what I understand this is under development but not yet released? This would be my ideal solution, so any authors can post in the single blog (I have no "categories") under their own DisplayName (I noticed the blog uses user name and full name, which is not ideal).

2) A configuration like the core DNN blogs where each user has their own blog (not ideal).

So, I set up a role called Blog Editors, and added my 2 users. I then changed the rights on the main blog view, the blog list and some other view, to give this role Edit rights. I then expected to see "Add Entry" when logged in as the other user. I do not, but I do see "Create Blog". I tried this, and I wanted it to feed into my main blog, but it does not - it also does not show up in my blog list.

I then tried to create a child blog (with admin) - but there was no way to assign users/roles to my child blog. I am right in thinking this is merely a "category" and still owned by the parent blog author and therefore cannot be posted upon by anyone else?

How do I have my one main poker blog feed with multiple authors? I really appreciate what you guys are doing here -great job!

Looking at the supporting tables for the blog, it appears that you would need to add a "Role" field to the Blog_Blogs table for multiple user ownership of a blog. You would also need to add a UserID field to the Blog_Entries table to be know which user from the Role created the entry.

I haven't looked at the code, but I'm thinking any child blogs would then need to look at the parent blog to know which role "could" have access to creating entries/sub-blogs in the blog/parent-blog.

If the blog/sub-blog was for a single user, then the Role field in the Blog_Blogs table could contain a static number, 0 or -1 for example, to indicate it was for a single user. If it was for multiple owners, then the UserID field could do the same to indicate it was for multiple users.

An issue arrises when you want to add a new blog for a role (or group of users). As an administrator, it's not a problem, since I can see all the roles being used on the site. As a user with no administrative privileges, I would not have the same luxury. I don't want to open my security roles up for everyone to see and it can be too much of a pain to always be bugging the admin everytime I want to create a blog for multiple roles. Would it make sense in the set-up of the blog to be able to create blog_roles? This would allow the users who set up a blog the ability to see which roles could be given access to a blog without taking any security away from the "site-roles". I'm starting to see why this issue is more than just a simple fix.

I guess I will accept the blog as it is. If I need to give multiple users the ability to create new entries/topics, I always have the forums.

Hi Rodney,

We just released a product called digMeta which lets you use the MetaWeblog API with the DNN Blog.  One of the features is that you can assign a Role to a single meta connection.  So you can say DNN role "Poker Blog" can post to DNN Blog "Poker Tips".  The only catch is that they would have to use Windows LiveWriter to post their blog entry.  And currently they could edit someone elses blog entry.  The users can use their same DNN login and password with Windows LiveWriter.  I'm not sure if it will fit your requirements, but I thought I'd mention it.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm in need of this feature too! In my case, I set up my main Blog as "news" and want to set up Child blogs and give each child blog (a different section basically) to a few users who can post. I'm setting up a site for internal company news and want a few people to be able to post their departments news. I've looked into Announcement module and it doesn't really work for me as I need the features that the Blog module has. Am I right in assuming Blog module is what I need or is there a better module I can use? If only blog module has this feature, I would be set. help me too! -jayson
