Hi Jeff,

thank you for your report. Could you please add that as a comment to the bug report of robax in Gemini (http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?ID=6732&PROJID=23)? I think it will be helpful for the project team!

I went to that site and set up an account and posted the same information. I hope someone pays attention to it. It seems as long as no permissions are touched all is fine. Of the 2 sites I am using the FORUMS on the only one with issues is the one I needed to adjust. The other is still working fine, but of course I am now afraid to change anything for fear of making the forums unusable.

I am also a stubborn person so I will surely keep trying to figure out what is going on and I will do my best to report my findings here.

I want to try to make clear the problem I am seeing with the FORUM Module. All of this is in Forum release 04.04.03. I am trying so work with me here... if there are other questions I need to answer I am happy to do so. I am new to DNN and have only set up 3 sites using it. Be gentle with me. :p

It appears to be happening on this site as well as mine so I am very confident there is a bug within the user/permission structure of the forum module.
HERE IS WHAT I AM SEEING.

If the admin settings are changed in any way, non-admin users set up prior to those admin edits are unable to post new threads.

All was working fine for everyone on my forums. I changed permissions to allow a group of users to administrate posts. (There is no moderation in the forums, but I wanted to restrict who could pin and/or lock threads.) I changed the forums to Public No Moderation w/Post Restrictions to activate the controls to remove permission for all registered users to pin and lock threads. I then applied those permissions to a new Security Role Group. As soon as I made that change the problem began where users could no longer add new threads.

ALSO, now I cannot seem to change any permissions on any forums in any group. The permissions simply revert back to what they were.

I attempted:

to make a new group and forum and the same problem exists in that new group and forum.

to go into the users and unauthorize and re-authorize a user and that had no affect.

creating a brand new user account. That user WAS ABLE to create new threads.

I have 2 sites up and running the exact same configuration.  Both are still in development and neither has data within it yet whic I am concerned at all about losing, so if I can be of any further help in setting up sceanrios, please let me know.

This is only affecting NON Admin or Host accounts set up PRIOR to the forum settings change.

ok.. so it's going to be fixed, and in the meantime, people who can't post new threads need to go to their personal forum settings and subscribe and unsubscribe from all forums. This is supposed to clear out or reset some settings. I found I had to do it 2 or 3 times to make it stick, but now I can post anywhere again.

I'm not 100% certain if this will help the original post in this thread, but it has dealt with the situation that I brought up.

Adding some info that maybe you can use.

In "my site forum", when I press "member list" button, it reset´s all the portal user settings in user accounts, it´s not happening when I go ADMIN - FORUM USERS, but again, in MEMBER LIST BUTTON.

My problem is not creating add/edit threads, but manage forum/groups in ADMIN, it happen´s when I edited/managed some foruns privacy and permissions in start when it was working or when I used SQL script from Crysp to correct the rates and member list that makes the rate work fine, but not the member list

So, Im not able anymore to CREATE AND EDIT FORUM/GROUPS, that means, set permission, and configure privacy, etc...

My module settings is checked "view for all user´s" ONLY, admin have all the check box set like default and non editable, so, I think it´s all right here in module settings unless you say Im not.

And like all, I cant start/create thread in here DNN site forum.
