I finally got around to signing up today... I used your link so hopefully that set the referral appropriately.  I ended up signing up for B20.

Thanks again,

Hello Fooberichu,

Just to know if you are satisfied with 3essentials ??? (excepted that it seems you can have only one FTP account, which is blocking for me).
What about the database backup, is it automatic, can you download the .bak file ??? It seems that you are obliged to ask for it each time (which is problematic, if you have a problem, you can not restore the last one, because in such case you need to ask a backup every day !!!)
What about the speed ??

I am currently with WH4L (very satisfied when it is up and running), but I can reasonably continue like that, I have currently 1 hour downtime every day... They claim 99.9% (but it is related to the server, and they acknowledge recently that it refers to server and not application pool which is shared...).
Support is great, speed also, but downtime is not acceptable... I am searching a solution (they propose VPS...)

DV,

I definitely would not recommend going with a VPS, the problem is that you are going to be using "virtual memory" and DNN's big performance issue always comes down to RAM because of the sql server.  I have seen too many of our clients have serious issues with the sql server on a VPS, ableit it's usually a cheap VPS.  I'm positive you'd be more than satisfied with PowerDNN given your needs but I am probably a little biased.  Anyway, hope you find what you're looking for.

www.webhost4life.com - Support understands DNN, control panel is decent and large MS DB (2,000mb). Some people say there are uptime issues,  but I have not had any such problems.

www.1and1.com - Support does not understand DNN, but it is cheap and tons of space and transfer. The control panel is the best I have seen so far. Installing here my be a challenge, I have heard some people have been successful, but support will not help you.

I'm currently with WH4L and was with 1and1 before moving to WH4L.

My primary website is an ASP application that I developed with a few calls to some ASPX file (image resampling).  DNN is more of a playground for me on WH4L.

The issue that I have with WH4L is that I've found the DNN performance to be sluggish.

I have had very little downtime on my site.  I've had very few times where there were problems...typically, it was that the database server was unresponsible.  In most of these cases, the problem lasted less than 15-minutes.  In the most recent outage, I did use their Help Desk and was back up within 30 minutes.  I've found their support to definitely do what they're supposed to....provide support.

I would NOT recommend 1and1 due to their lack of support.  The final straw for me was when all of the ASPX files on my site stopped working.  My support issues were responded with "the problem must be in your code."  However, even any empty ASPX file didn't load correctly (my site didn't have/need a web.config file);  I could run the same file with no problems on different web servers.  They didn't seem to be willing to consider that the problem was on their end and didn't seem to want to resolve the problem.

Since I have been absent from the entire thread I thought I would pop in and comment on these items for you.

With 3Essentials you cannot perform your own backup, however, they do nightly backups and if you had a problem they could restore you to ANY of the previous 7 days backups without a problem.  They are very good about this.  if you want a backup for your own usage, you can also request one and they typically get them done in about an hour (Normally faster).

The FTP account item could be a blocking factor as you can only have 1 per domain (or sub domain).

As for the speed, I know that you visit my site quite a bit and you can see that the performance of it is pretty decent.  I run anywhere between 300-500 visitors a day on my http://www.mitchelsellers.com domain.  I also have http://www.freedotnetnukestuff.com, http://www.icgportals.com and a few others hosted on this DNN installation.  I haev only had a few cases of downtime with my time at 3Essentials, and admittedly one of them was my own fault for an improper DNN configuration setting which caused excessive stress on their server....(Pegged the CPU at 80-90 percent for over an hour before they pulled my plug!.  They offer isolated App Pools as well as full trust environments, overall A+ at lest in my experience.
