A few years ago I predicted that the implementation of online help would never bee accurate and a redesign would benefit DNN.
In this moment the help text shows relese 4.6.x. All installations get the help from this version, so I asume most installations get the wrong help.
For modules the probability for accurate help are even worse. The basic for help is that it should bee accurate. In a few weeks or before (I hope) the 4.7 will bee at the market and now we have old online help for the new release as well. So if not the online help are syncronized wtith the release process (and beleve me it never will bee) the help will alvays bee inaccurate.
Some changes in the core will do it a little better. Let the version number bee part of the url to the help. Then helptext for all versionsmust bee stored as well.
A better solution would bee to ship the online help with the version to bee installed localy, That will reduce the need for "Help and Online Help" often with the same information. The translation to all languages would bee possible too.
I asume a so nice documentation in the online help needs a better implementation and the most important thing is that it should bee accurate for every installation not just for those that happens to have the accurate one. (I asume less than 5%)
OK I can turn it off, but if all do that why take the time to write it..
This subject doesent belong here in the help module but I was asked by Lorraine Young in a Blog comment to put it here.
