Honestly this decision really depends on your specific requirements for your business/website.

What functionality is needed?

Do you need to have a support person that you can call if an error comes up?

Is the whiz-bang look something that you have to have or is a good functional free forum do-able for your needs?

What functionality is needed?

The million dollar question...normal basic stuff really, like stuff found on most 25+ forums where I have a user account. Nothing really strange or anything like that, but those basic functions should still be as good as they can be so to speak.

While doing my due diligence, I was unable to find a single negative comment about AF...no outstanding problems whatsoever. Every feature I would expect or wish for in a forum module is supported...and then some. :) I think ActiveModules produces some of the most polished 'out-of-the-box' modules in the world of DNN.

That's the impression I have also, seems to be very "polished". I have heard rumours about version 3.8 being around the corner, anyone happen to know when it will be out? If it is anytime soon, that is probably the one we should compare the new and improved DNN Forum with.

I'll just say that I didn't wait for 3.8, but after installing 3.7 just a couple of days ago, I just uninstalled the 'new and improved DNN forums' and not looking back. Perhaps my Ford Focus vs BMW 700 series analogy was not by happenstance.
