Yes.  And I believe that the UDT Module does it too.  That source might be easier to sort through.  (Though I haven't looked at the new Forum Module source yet.)

I've used this technique on several modules now with good success. The UDT module was one of the first to use it and is still the clearest example.  The new forum module also uses custom module permissions but its coding will be much harder to follow. Let me know if you still have questions after looking at this source.

Thanks guys for providing this very valuable information and discussion about Roles and permissions. I have to do some more reading as I still don't quite get how the View and Edit parts do, I am new to DNN and just plating around with creating a Module that resembles an old ASP(classic) project I did many years ago.
