I keep getting a Login Failed, remember that Passwords are case sensitive error message trying to login to a website that was created in DNN 3.X. I have tried restoring both the site and database from backups and continue to recieve the same error message? I tried to register a new user and it places the user information into the aspnet_Membership table but does not actually register it with the site(EX. Users table does not contain newly added user) I have tried everything!!! PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!! If no one knows the solution as to how to get rid of this error can someone please tell me how to successfully register a new user and make it the admin?

Did you upgrade your DNN before the login error started? If so, then perhaps you forgot to copy the machine key (which is used for the passworfd encryption) from your old web.config to the new one.

If not, then perhaps this blog enry on Mitchell Sellers' site can help: Creating DotNetNuke Host Account Via SQL.

I restored the site and database from a backup. So the machine key should still be the same.

Also, I looked at this link but it will not work for me because it says that you have to have a working user account and none of my user accounts work.

Please someone help!!!

The only solution I can imagine is to copy the default host Password and PasswordSalt entries out of the aspnet_Membership table of a fresh DNN 3 installation (3.3 and 3.2 are still downloadable) to your problem site. Then you should be able to login as host with the default host password.

Since you're running DNN 3, I guess it's not a fresh installation, and the login has worked so far. So I wonder if you changed something before the login started to fail?

If the machine key did change is there any way to get around that?
