Hello,

I'm installing 4.7 to a newly setup Win2k3/SQL/IIS box.

I set the asp.net, iwam, and iusr to full control on the /wwwroot folder, where all my DNN files are located, and edited the web.config to point to the correct SQL database etc. I have already read about permissions for ASP.NET and set them to full control.

I keep getting this error:

Access to the path 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\\DotNetNuke.config' is denied.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\\DotNetNuke.config' is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

It also appears the path is incorrect, should it not be c:\inetpub\wwwroot\config\DotNetNuke.config'?? The double slash in the error path should not be there....

Thank you, Tom

Have you done what it is asking you to do?

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

I would start there first.  This has to be done on the root folder of your site. (most likely the wwwroot folder)

Good luck!

Please re-read my post.

I have ALREADY done, reviewed, verified that ASPNET has full control over the desired folder.

Thank you, Tom

Is IIS properly configured?  In your virtual directory right click and go to properties.  Click the home directory and ensure the read and write boxes are checked and the Excute Permissions box is set to Scripts and Executables.

I would also double check your permissions for that folder (even though you have done it already)

I fixed this by giving NETWORK SERVICE account all rights except Full Control. Thank you, Tom

I also had to make certain that SQL was set to mixed mode, which I did in its server properties.

As to the read/write and executables, these must be already properly set for wwwroot because after I gave Network Service proper permissions to wwwroot and changed SQL to mixed mode, the install proceeded smoothly and I got all the way to an installed site.

After today I will check the IIS permissions etc. anyway.

Thank you, tom
