I installed a clean version of the 4.7.0 source package.  I was able to get a site up just fine, however I am getting numerous javascript errors on every page.  The most common one is 'Sys' is undefined (this occurs 2 to 3 times per page.  Another one I get is 'webform_PostbackOptions' is undefined when I click a button that causes a postback.  I realize this is an ajax problem but not how to resolve it.  I have commented out the compression module in the web.config but that had no effect.  I have tried reinstalling 4.7.0 as well with no change.  Anyone have any ideas on things to try?

thanks,

Jake

Hi Jake,

We have encountered the 'Sys is undefined' error on a custom DNN application we build on top of DNN 4.8. What I mention here might not provide you the answer, but will certainly provide a good best practice for developers.

After going through lots of DNN and Non-DNN forums regarding this issue and testing out various things we realised it was our mistake. We were basically putting the new version of our application file to the same folder as the previous version (after deleting everything of course) and using the same IIS web application. Once we created a new web application and put the new application files to a new location 'Sys is undefined' error magically went away.

So the DNN best prcatice during a developement of a DNN solution is to always create a new IIS web application and new location for new deployments.

Cheers,

Uchitha.

Hello Jake,

I want to make an update for the previous entry. We have actually encountered the same problem again and this time only we discovered the real problem. The real underneath cause of this issue is that our servers time has been inaccurate. This was due to some problem with windows date time synchronization service. The important lesson I learnt here is the importance of troubleshooting an issue deeply till u get the full understanding of it.  I was able to tackle this because I use fiddler to monitor the HTTP traffic and was able to see the real error popping out from the web server.

Best Regards,

Uchitha.
