Hi all, i have a (perhaps noob) question, but why is there two different databases in dnn? i have one that takes care of all the site info and its created during instalation (named according to all tutorials DotNetNuke) located in the sqlserver folder and another one used in the modules development tutorials called "database.mdf" in app_data. Now im trying to develop my first module and dont know where to put a connection string for the secoind one, or where to put the table structure to support the mopdules data accessing.

Can someone  put some light in here please?

Tanks a lot.

The DB in your App_Data directory is mainly supposed to only be used for development purposes, and locally on your machine.  The other DB you mention is meant for a deployed DNN installation.  Deviating from that pattern is possible, but I would not recommend it.  However, DNN is only using one of those DBs.  Your connection string will tell you which is being used.  (On a side note, I wouldn't develop modules using the local DB either.)

Your connection string in the ConnectionStrings node and in AppSettings are supposed to be the same.  If they are not, change the one in AppSettings to match the one in ConnectionStrings.  The ConnectionStrings connection string is the one where the DNN instance was actually installed.

As far as developing your module, the database location shouldn't matter as long as you're using the data provider development pattern

I just want to reiterate will's comment about NOT using the .mdf file located in the app_data folder.  I do not use them as I find that it causes more problems in the long run, that is why ALL of my tutorials talk about using a specifically created DNN database.
