We use the Catalook system and it works great. Only the template it uses to display all items and data is very 'busy' and 'cluttered'. many borderlines and background colors etc. this makes it hard to see the real content. It draws attentention away from the products themselves.

I am looking for a simple, clear display of items, with no borders, no lines within lines, no background-colors etc.

I knwo I can work out all adjustments needed but hat may take quite some time.

Is there anybody out there who has adjusted these templates and has mode more simple and attractive ones?
Are you willing to share that?

You can post it to this forum or send it to my email-address <info at gidsvoorzelfvertrouwen.nl>.

Thanks,
Pieter

This is a big one for me too. I think I'm going to create some skins for the ItemPane.ascx file and post them on Snowcovered.com, that is, once I figure out how to work with the existing code... I'll post back here when I do.

Try starting with the compact Grey skin - It is minimal to start with.

Also - turn off the stock features like - wishlist, email a friend, price history agent, currency ,buy it now - they all add to the clutter.

Replace the icons - that's what i do.

If you use the compactgray you will have a good start.

I've got a forum on http://www.catalooksupport.com that has a bit more information about Catalook.

Thanks for the info Nina. I think I've got it down now. I started with the compactgrey skin and stripped out the HTML and the controls I didn't want. Then I rebuilt the HTML to fit my design. When I get some spare time I'd like to design some of my own Catalook skins to post free on your site. I'm working on a cool site right now using Telerik RadMenu, Catalook and OntakTech (The absolute BEST software for DNN I've come across so far). It's not ready yet but will be up and running this week I hope.. Here's a couple of my first DNN sites if anyone's interested in taking a gander... www.gehydroponics.com and www.avalonbeadstore.com. I worked long and hard on them so I feel I have at least a little bit of bragging rights! If anyone experiences slow load times or other problems I would really appreciate your input. Happy Nukin'.

Pieter, are you versed in CSS and HTML? You will definitely need to be to do what you want, even if you get coe from some one else. I can give you some code to start from if you email me at phixate (at) y.a.h.o.o dot com. You may have to cut and paste some of it and make some adjustments. But honestly it really just takes some time to get familiar with the way the code is structured, particularly in the ItemPane. I can also give you this advice: Start by turning off features you don't need in the ItemPane's settings. Leave the controls in the proper ItemTemplate when adjusting the layouts of the datagrids or datalists. Also, leave the ASP panels as they contain info that is needed for the controls inside. Basically anything with an ID should probably stay. If you delete a control you should also delete the tag at the top where it is registered on the page. If you have any other question let me know. I'll do my best to help.
