I have DNN 2.1.2 running from an access database and soon could be moving providers.  The new provider I am looking at will let me install either DotNetNuke 4.5.3 or DotNetNuke 3.3.7 and I think upgrading will be great, but I don't want to loose all of the sites that are in my old version.

Will upgrading upgrade the database from MSAccess to SQL?

Thank you for your time

if you can access you database using MS Access, you can use the upsize wizard included to convert MS Access tables into an SQL database.

Used this method some years ago for a number of clients that had access databases on dnn2 - it is not sucessfull - you end up with errors mainly null references - some appear straight away and some hide and pop up when least expected.

Best to use the upsize wizzard to create the sql database then use apexsql or the free sql scripter (http://www.sqlscripter.com/) to generate the insert statements for the data then add these to the sql provider files in the dnn2 install and do a clean install. this will get as close to the conversion as possible.

To move from dnn2 to dnn3 we found that you should convert to the lowest sub version and then convert all the way up to the highest however in dnn3 you can go to dnn331 then dnn335 then dnn337 and tis will give you no errors.

There is a program available to convert your users from an access table to dnn3 - if you have a large number of user accounts. think you will find it on www.cathal.co.uk
