Michelle,

In the upper-left, below Mode: View/Edit should be Page Functions.  If that's not visible, click the arrows next to Show Control Panel on the far right (at the top).

The icon for Design in Page Functions should have a minus sign.  If it has a plus sign, click on it to exit Design mode.

Mike and others,

I really appreciate your help, but I don't think you fully understand what I mean.

(1) I see my page functions.

(2) I am in edit mode

(3) When I click on the triangle on the left of the container of the module (to edit), I see the pull-down menu for that module - basically the options that are available to me for that option.  On all modules, regardless of page or module, it does not list "edit" as one of my choices.  It starts with "import content" then "export content" and other options that are available for that module.

My client also has access to the website and I know he inadvertently clicked on something.   I just haven't been able to figure it out.  That's why I'm on the board.  I know someone here with the vast experience with DNN has encountered an "oops moment"

Thank you so much for your help.

Michelle

Michelle,

We do understand what you mean and it's a very common occurence.

In the Page Functions icons in the upper-right, does the Design button show a plus sign or a minus sign?  If it shows a plus sign, then you have gotten into Design Mode.  If this is the case, click on the Design icon to exit Design mode (it will change to a minus sign).

This is not necessarily anything that you (or your client) has clicked.  EVERY site administrator for all of our portals has encountered this issue at least once.

Actually Mike, I think Michelle is saying that the "Edit" item in the Action Menu is missing on the portal.  I have never encountered that though.

I am experiencing an issue trying to edit pages that sounds very similar if not the same as Michelle is trying to relate.

When I login to my development portal and navigate to a page I wish to edit, I ensure the radio button is set to Edit, and that the "Design" icon has a minus sign on it.  I can click "Edit Text" and see the text editor and make changes there.  However when I click "Update" or "Preview" to save the changes, the page just reverts to its previous state and the only thing that happens is the "View / Edit" radio button toggles to the "View" state.  Because of this I am unable to edit my pages.

I have tried logging out and back in, restarting IIS, restarting DNN, checking file permissions, logging in from other computers, and all kinds of clicking to get SOMETHING to work.  When my server gets into this state, most links such as "Site" under "Common Tasks" do the same action...that is to revert the mode to "View" and return the same page I was just on with no changes effected.

DNN 4.6.2, SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition

I have also previously experienced a situation where my "Edit Text" option did not appear on the triangle menu for some pages.  I don't recall how I solved this, but it may have been related to me trying to edit pages that were copies of other pages.
