Hey All-

I developed an intranet for my office that has about 700 users.  What is the best approach (with DNN 4.7) to creating an index of the users with bios, other information (languages, associations, etc...) and a picture?  The objective is for users to get familiar wth each other and to be able to search the site for personnel skills and/or experience in coworkers,  go through it alphabetically, and maybe have a user of the day for the front page of the site.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.  I've seen threads talking about using the facebook API, which is not familiar to me.

Thanks!

you should extend/adopt the user profile properties (you will need to create custom data type for images) and use a user directory like the free one from www.effority.net

You'll need a 3rd party module - there's a quite a few around but it depends on your requirements. I had a similar requirement for a profile directory on PokerDIY and it also has the ability to show a random or set profile. The Smart-Thinker UserProfile has the directory, birthday list, MyFriends and templating built into it.

Thanks Sebastian.  Is there any documentation available on how to extend/adopt the user profile properties?  I downloaded the module you suggested, but have had trouble installing it so far.  I will continue to hack away!

OK - I am once again holding this ball in my juggling act.  I have a couple more questions;

1)  Can I safely get rid of "Timezone" and "Preferedlocal" properties?  If so, how?

2)  I have user photos uploaded and named with username.jpg.  If I create a custom data type (how?!), can the user profile auto load the image based on username?

Thanks!
