I have read in several forums though that VisualSVN is very buggy.  Have you found that to be true?  Also, do you find it to be worth the $49?  So far, I am extremely happy with Toroise.

Check out ankhsv (http://ankhsvn.tigris.org/screenshots.html) it works pretty well and is free (you'll have to ensure you switch it to _svn folders rather than .svn folders)

I use Tortoise SVN and its pretty good - and there are no special requirements for DNN.  It took a while to get used to, after using Visual Sourcesafe for so long.. Best feature for me, is showing which files have not yet been added to SVN (Sourcesafe does not do this)

I haven't personally used VisualSVN all that much -- just their trial -- but from what I've seen it seems to be fine.  There have been a couple of quirks (like trying to rename something that has already been added but not committed).  I still much prefer to just use TortoiseSVN and keep my source control out of the dev environment altogether though.

My brother really likes VisualSVN though so there are two sides to the fence here.  Probably mostly just depends on personal preference.  If I were the kind of guy who liked a plugin integrated with my dev environment, $49 probably wouldn't be a bad investment and if it does have bugs, I'm sure they are working on resolving them.

Somebody else here mentioned AnhkSVN... what little I've attempted that one I thought it was much worse than VisualSVN (I haven't tried to use it again in over a year).  It was crashing my dev environment and having all sorts of weird quirkies so I nuked it.  The thing that was nice about visualSVN is that your working directory was compatible with TortoiseSVN so you could use either method, AnkhSVN had it's own method altogether.

I use SVN for all my development, leve VSS behind years ago.  I never messed with Apache, I just run it as a Service, and let developers VPN into the network.  However, we have started using CodeSpaces.com, and it's a wonderful plase to store your SVN repsitory.

I use AnhkSVN for normal commits and adding files from Visual Studio, and TortoiseSVN for branching and tagging.  AnhkSVN works great for me in VS 2005 and VS 2008.  If you are using VS2008 or Vista, check out here for some patches and updates.

Good Luck!
Mike
