Some of you may have remembered me posting a couple years ago about how my DNN site (hosted with WebSecureStores) started to have some performance issues and I put in a trouble ticket and WebSecureStores told me "you're using too much of the CPU--upgrade to .NET 2.0, get a dedicated server, or find another host."  Right to that after hosting with them for more than a year with two sites.  Then the issue went away (they were happy and the site was performing better) and I don't really think I did anything with the site to make that happen.

Anyway, I planned to upgrade but first I asked them if they still wanted me there (in case they just didn't like my military content website or me) and they said they did.  So I just upgraded my two sites from 3.2.2 to 4.7 and one of them (the same one) was working slowly on the first day but was working.  I went to bed last night and then today...my site keeps resetting.  I look in the logs and every 45-60 seconds it says "Application Started" (no application shutdowns though).  The server keeps resetting but there are no errors in the log.  So I sent in a support ticket and I got the same response--"virtual or dedicated server or find another host--site using too much cpu."

I pretty experience DNNer did the upgrade for me and it worked fine on his local machine and he tested it.  I'm not sure if he did a memory test but I will ask him soon to see what kind of resoruces it was using.  But I'm wondering if anybody has any guess as to why this is happening?  Is there something I can ask WebSecureStores for to help analyze this?  It just seems strange a site that is working fine...gets upgraded to DNN4.7....same site....and now it's this resource hog.

And I just got another email saying to find another host asap so I guess I'll find a new host.

At least Mark is being nice over there and is willing to move my website to a new host for free.

I wonder what was wrong with my website??

Lest anybody think I'm bashing on WebSecureStores please don't think that.  The experience has been 99% very good.  I've just had a couple bad experiences like these and I'm not sure if it's my site that is causing the issue or what.  Nonetheless, it's a bad experience.

They said I could move my site to a virtual private server for 99/month instead of the 20 or so a month I'm doing now.  Anybody done this or know anything about it?

I'm on one of those at webhost4life after a nitemare time on a shared account. With the VPS you should get your own resources to consume as you like. Even it it runs at 100% CPU and blows out the memory, if only affects your sites. Be very specific about what you need and shop around for that. There are loads of differences that are never listed on hosting sites and it's very hard to find the right thing.
