The Child Portal Name You Specified Already Exists. Please Choose A Different Child Portal Name.

I have tried everything I can think of.  I was on 4.7 and found a thread that said this was fixed in 4.8, so I upgraded.  Still no luck.  I have changed every feild on the form.  I have tried to do this locally on the server logged in as admin and as the same user account that .net runs under.

Any suggestions aprecieated.

Thanks,

Brian

I'm just making a wild guess here.....

Check the root of your DNN portal's file system. Look for a folder with the same name as the site you are trying to create. This folder contains the redirect for the child portal. The folder may still be there from failed attempts and DNN won't let you make a new one while the folder is there.

Does it work if you use a completely random name like "jknsdioufhio"?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunatly there are no directories conflicting in the root or the portals directory.  I have tried to let the system use the portal id as well as a customized path of Portals/asdfadsf.

I have had this happen to me as well. After making sure any vestiges of the child portal have been removed, a system reboot usually takes care of the "Child Portal Name...." message.  Obviously, you have to have the ability to reboot your DNN server to use this method.

If there is another way to get rid of these annoying problems, I 'd love to know!

I do have access to reboot the server although I have not removed anything becuase I have not found anything.  I have looked in the root directory and the portals directory for sub directories and I have looked through the portals table in SQL.  Is there anywhere else I should be looking for "vestiges" or are "vestiges" something other then directories and rows?

Thanks
