Brian,

Vestige means a mark, trace, or visible evidence of something that is no longer present or in existence. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/vestige

Sorry for the confusion on that!

Since you have the ability to reboot your server, I'd give that a try.

I am seeing this problem as well, and even with a reboot, cleaning all DB references to a portal (or any accounts for that portal, both in the DNN table and aspnet_User table) I am seeing this message.  I even used a different portal alias ([hostname]/newname/) and title.

If a reboot doesn't solve it (i.e. application process restarted) what else can be a culprit?  Server (I am using Win2000/IIS 5)?  Permissions?

Update: I did a fresh reinstall of 4.8, including a new database.  I checked permissions for the root folder and ASP.NET process has full control.  I am still seeing this message.

The only other consideration may be that DNN is running as a virtual root under a web instance, rather than as its own instance.

How does DNN determine if a child exists in an installation?  What does the application check?

Thanks
Dave
