I don't know if this is related, but I'm running 5.01.01 and if I create a user with a username of say "jsample" and I then DELETE the user and attempt to create another NEW users with the same userID "jsample" I get the "already exists" error.  This makes no sense.  The user was deleted. Why can't the username be "reused"?

Whilst in your example where deleting a user account immediately after creating it might be acceptable, in other cases if the user has been active, they may well have left posts in forums, blogs, or comments and may have made many other contributions to a site.  Deleting a user under those circumstances may leave a trail of 'orphaned' records around the site or, if these orphaned records were to be deleted too, a degree of 'disjointedness' in those areas that the user account has conributed to.

I had this same problem occur.  My scenario involved two portals with AD.  If a users AD password changed and they had not logged into the original portal they were set up in since that password change then they would get this error when logging into the new portal.  I was able to replicate it by changing a users AD password and then immediately logging into the new portal.  My solution is to have the user log into the original portal (which updates the AD password) and then log into the new portal.

They should get logged in no matter what portal they log into. With the latest versions of the provider their password is not longer stored and it just hits the site, verifies the user's credentials against the AD, and stores a random password in DNN.

I am running into this exact problem.  And I get it if the new User is deleted immediately.  So they have no chance to create any kind of a trail by making blog posts, etc.

I create a user, delete the user and then try and create the user again, and I get the error.
