Looking for assistance in an issue that seems to date back to the days of DNN 3x. based upon Google search results and my attempts at researching this issue before posting here.

Running a site in DNN 4.05.05 and it was working great until "all of a sudden" - users log in, then click to navigate somewhere and are kicked out and forced to login again.  Issue not noticed in Firefox web browser.

Running DNN on a Windows Server 2003 EE box.
Clients running IE 7 experiencing the issue now, they didn't before, so I am not assuming any major changes in IE7's config unless a latest security patch was installed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

This sounds very familiar, and I will look at my notes.  Do you notice signs of script errors, i.e. "Done" in lower left with warning sign? (View>Status Bar needs to be selected in your browser)  Could you try to catch any script errors in IE7 Tools>Internet Options>Advanced{tab} and uncheck both "Disable ..." and check "Display a notification ..." These options are under the Browser category toward the top.  Just for your site and testing ... you'll want these back on for general browsing.  John

I did not notice those script errors, but I wasn't looking for them.  I will take your recommendation and act on it.  Some progress was made in troublshooting the issue.

I took a backup of the database and the site and restored it on staging servers.  Duplicated the problem.  The oddest thing was that the "Icon" image a user had put into a DnnForge News Module Article, appeared on the public pages, yet displayed a red "X" when logged in as an Administrator.  As host, the image displayed.

I recalled seeing something, now unrelated, in the Event Viewer about a general exception in the following "RawURL"

/portal/DesktopModules/DnnForge - NewsArticles/ImageHandler.ashx?

Based on that I figured I would remove the article.  I did, and the problem was "solved".  I quote "solved" because I still don't understand the where's and why's of what went wrong.  And how removing the article "fixed" the situation.

I appreciate your response and hope to continue this thread so more light can be shed on DotNetNuke.  This is my first major experience with it and I recomended it at my company, so I would like to see it succeed of course.

I'll report back anything I find based on your recommendations.

Thanks again.

Tom

Tom,

I'd check in over at Ventrian.com and see if there is anything there about a potential issue that would be cause by a blog article as that is a very unusual situation.

Thanks Mitch, appreciate the response.

I have made a tiny bit of progress in stopping the users from being kicked out.  Removing the entire article isn't necessary but the picture used in the header needed to be removed.

I will read Ventrian's site to see if I can find anything.
