This is exactly what I was referring to, I understand the development process of open source software but an up to date roadmap listing the features of each release (sub-release) would only help in the adoption of DNN. Its incredibly difficult to plan dependent software development if you don't know if a feature is going to be updated/included in a release next quarter or next year.

BTW...I did search the forums for a response to this question, however, searching often times or errors out.

As of right now I'm still unsure what is actually in release 5.0 and what the roadmap actually is for this product. I had no intention of causing any kind of negativity, I honestly couldn't find this information and was fairly suprised by the response. Perhaps this misunderstanding does warrant better communication of the roadmap through the website. Just a suggestion. I like DNN, I just want to be able to prepare better for change. If there is a better place to find this information can someone reply to this?

The reason you can't find this information is that it doesn't exist in a concrete form yet. DNN5/"Cambrian" will actually be a series of releases. The initial release (approximately Q1 2008) focuses on refactoring modules to allow pluggable host/admin modules that support granular permissions and reworking the install/features code. Some of this is necessary for later "Cambrian" releases and future releases will leverage it. Charles blogged the details of this @ http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/BlogID/15/Default.aspx .

I'm afraid there is no feature list or timelines for future cambrian releases as it simply hasn't been decided yet. A while back core team members suggested areas they'd like to see in future releases, so these will get debated and agreed. Depending on availability, capability and commitment these features will then fall into one or more releases. There are also a number of broad areas such as workflow, skinning etc., that will be implemented. Once there is a clearer idea I'll sure some details will be forthcoming.

I appreciate your response Cathal.

Regarding the granular permissions and pluggable admin modules, it this the functionality that allows the Administrator to assign certain admin functions such as user/role management to another non-admin user or role? I just want to be clear that this is the functionality that you are referring to for the initial release of Cambrian around Q1.
