I kind of came up with a hack to prevent the user from being able to change there info by just adding a </A> "the html end link tag" tag to the beginning of the users Display Name. This prevents a user from being able to click on their name and get to the Manage Profile Page.

Hi Chuck,

I would like to do the same thing in my portal as well where users would not be able to access the 'Manage Profile' page. Can you elaborate on where exactly you would add the </a> tag (such as which line in which DNN file)? I would appreciate it...

You can prevent the user sgetting to the Profile page by update the User Page in the Site Settings.

  1. Log in as Admin and goto Admin >> Site Settings memu
  2. Expand the Advanced Settings
  3. Change the User Page to some other page (it could be a blank page or a page with Text/HTML module with text telling users can not change profile)

Notice that the User Page is also the user Registration page.  If your site registration method is Private, this is not an issue.  If your site allows user registration, you might want to put User Account on the blank page and experiment with assigning the module view permission to the Unauthenticated Users role.
