Re: Native or offhore webservers.

I think its worth considering more than just page delivery times.
I have always found that upload tasks can take a bit longer - it stands to reason that the routing is much longer / complex to servers on different continents.

Time zone differences can add to support times. If I email my UK ISP response is less than 4 hours at any almost tme of day or night.
Phone costs can be high if you need to do this.
Lots of offshore invoicing gets more attention from tax authorites?

There is always the nationalistic point that many of the DNN specialists are quite small in ISP terms so it makes some sense to support these companies in our own countries.

Ian,

Thanks for this. Looks very interesting. However I cannot see any support for DNN off their website....

Slightly puzzled....

If you are talking about DotNetPark, they provide website hosting, not DNN support per se. They do use and therefore understand DNN, and there is a DNN installer available. I don't use it as it's usually a version or two behind where I want to be.

They are hosting provider specialists, not DNN support specialists. I provide my own DNN support and look primarily here when I need more info. It's a good fit for a DNN installation, and they do their job very well.

HI Sam

Re DNN support at RFH.

I believe that there was an auto-install script in one of the control panels that come with an account.  I usedit once long ago (3.1 ish)

All I ever do now is select a domain, add a DB, upload DNN via FTP, Etc Etc.

My recommendation was based on the fact that they are a very good ASP .Net host and also that they can supply what I believe is the minimum spec for a serious DNN install.  IE:  Own App Pool, Full Trust,  and hosting on a "semi-dedicated" server at sensible prices.  This combination is not so easy to find in the UK.

I am sure they would install DNN for you if needed.  I am also happy to help.

Sorry about the delay responding - don't seem to get forum notifucations any more.

Ian

Hi,

Has anyone had experience of "DiscountASP" hosting? I also have general ASP.NET hosting requirements and they seem to offer alot, although they are based in the US and I am in the UK. Having said that they have set up European servers as well...

Thanks,

Sam
