Wow... this is not a noob question afterall....

Hey R, you have pointed a good section on web.config. Have you also notice this one:

passwordFormat="[Clear|Hashed|Encrypted]"  Storage format for the password: Hashed (SHA1), Clear or Encrypted (Triple-DES)

How do I changed the password from encrypted to not encrypted (eventhough this is not a very good idea for security reason).

I really need help in this one. Thanks.

I have a similar problem.. I chnaged host/admin user passwords - and now I can remember what they are.
(it's been a while since I used them). I can see the encrypted passwords in the asp_membership table, but how do I get the plain password to login or reset the password in the database?

The password reminder email sent *** as the password. Please help if anyone knows the answer.

I want to use a webservice to validate users.  I was thinking that I would call an dnn method to encrypt the username and password and then check it against the aspne_memebership table.  is there anything available for me to do that?  please let me know.

I had an issue where I made a backup of the entire installation, deleted all but the SQL database, reinstalled the software, restored the database only to find I could not log into any of the portals although they had indeed been restored.

I the uploaded the original web.config file which allowed me to log back into the portal/host as the superuser. So the answer is, yes this will work.

Saved my butt from having to rebuild 42 portals. Wheeeeeeeewwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!
