I just installed the DNN Starter Kit. Now when I open Visual Studio and click File -> New Project, Visual Studio simply locks up. Has this behavior been seen before? I've tried all the regular stuff (reinstall DNN, reboot computer, etc) and nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

System: Windows Server 2003 R2, Visual Studio 2005

I have never seen an issue like that, but it sure sounds like Visual Studio is corrupt and may need to be reinstalled. Did you happen to move your Documents folder to another dirve? Did you happen to change the folder settings in Visual Studio itself?

Before any of that, you can remove any start kits simply by deleteing the appropiate files in...

Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects
Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Templates\ItemTemplates
Documents\Visual Studio 2005\TemplatesProjectTemplates

You might want to backup the VS2005 folder and just delete it to see if that makes a difference. I can't believe the DNN Starter Kit is to blame. It's just a file in a folder.

I just has the same experience.  Downloaded and installed the starter kit.  And now VS 2005 locks up when I try either a New Project, or a New Website.  And yes - I rebooted.

Well, I tried your suggestion of removing the starter kits and that is the problem.  Specifically, this project kit . . .

 

...\Visual Studio 2005\Templates\ProjectTemplates\Visual Web Developer\VisualBasic\DotNetNuke.zip

 

I removed this directory and VS 2005 displays the New Website dialog just fine.  I replace it and it locks up.  Any ideas?

I can only guess that the file or VS2005 is corrupt. Sorry but I just don't have a better answer.
