 Under my hosting directory \abc, I created a sub-directory abc\dotnet3 and had the dnn 4.80 installed on this \dotnet3 directory with the 2.0 Framework platform. It
worked well. Unfortunately, when I opened the website with "Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition", I accepted the upgrading of the website. After the upgrading, my website worked well but the dnn did not work anymore.

The error message is as follows:

Server Error in '/dotnet3' Application.

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Child nodes not allowed.

As long as my website continues to operate, I would not mind not to have the upgrading. Please help!

Most likely  upgrade overwritten web.config entries (such as machine keys), you may be able to find out backup config file under Config directory of your website. Check that place :) Otherwise only option is restore from backup.

Regards.

Thank you to both Jeff and Ismet. The problem now is that I have forgot to backup the config files.

And I tried to install another dnn on to the new directory \abc\dotnet\ , this installation is actually done by Godaddy pre-arranged system. When I browse \abc\dotnet\ , the following error message appears.

Server Error in '/dotnet' Application.

Do I need to amend the web.config file under abc\ or I need to do something on the newly created web.config under abc\dotnet\ ? As the website abc\ is now operating normally, I'm afraid if there is any amendment to the file web.config under abc\ will ruin the whole website.

I'm finally able to fix it by removing the following line from the web.config

<add name="ScriptModule" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptModule, System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" />

However, I am not sure that what consequence will be and I'm not sure if it's running .net 3.5 properly.

Thank to those who suggested me.
