You're suppose to set the starting page as default.aspx.

I had to check my original post a couple of times to verify; but other than right clicking Default.aspx and selecting "Set as default opening/default page" (or some variation of that string) in Visual Studio, there's not much else I can do to enforce starting page....Perhaps you can tell me how you'd set default.aspx as a starting page.

Dont use the starter kit, use the install kit...

Download the install kit and follow this guide... Easy DotNetNuke installation.  You can also download all the official documents including an install guide from here (dotnetnuke.com login required).

The majority of the instructions displayed in the link provided are how to setup SQL and .NET on a local machine. I didn't post this in my original post, but I'm trying to install on a remote server. I have verified that my service provider is using .NET 2.0; MS SQL 2005 / 2007; and I've gone through the file permission portion of the setup that does verify read / write access. Furthermore, the install wizard does run the SQL setup scripts succesfully without any errors (as per my original posts). The failure occurs on "install step 6" of the instructions displayed in the link provided where I am unable to install the preselected modules of adsense, XML, HTML, Links (Ther'es one more, but I can' t remember what it is at the moment). I leave the other modules unselected when I tried to install. Conversely, I've also tried to select all and very my selections in hopes to jar some alter response other than the error message : "Unable to install module(s)".

I've tried installing via, the starter kit and the install kit, and get the same results on both multiple ocassions.

Those modules should install fine... to check if it is the DNN install or the module install causing your problem, you should try to install DNN without selecting those modules.  You can always add them later (click the Install New Modules link in the control bar).  Make sure to delete your database and make a new one everytime an install fails - a half installed database is worthless.

I'm having trouble quoting myself from the opening post.

I think if you quote and then /quote with square brackets, it should work, but then I'd have to manually paste the quoted section. Nevermind, I'll just rewrite the section that I wrote so I save myself some time....

"I've deleted all the tables in my sql and have deleted all the contents in my root directory about a dozen times trying to install DNN."

My post also says ... "try to install without the modules - does it work?" ... have you tried without the modules?  Anyway, dont just delete all the tables - delete the entire database and create a new one.
