This is an area that I need to add to the documentation and will for the next version but here goes.

If you create a DNN Security Role (under Global) that matches the AD Group's Pre-Windows 2000 name (i.e. If you've got an AD group called Sales you would want to create a Security Role called Sales) and you have synchronize checked in the settings then when a user belonging to the Sales group hits the site they'll automatically be added to the Sales security role.

You treat the Sales security role just like you would any other role you create in DNN for applying permissions to pages/modules.
