The only way to unlock the lost "Host" user, is to manually elevate any registered user to a super admin role by direct database modifications. Our clients lock themself out all the time, it can be a pain in the butt sometimes.

If I remember correctly there are several tables including ASPNET_ that need to be worked with. Essential you have to make regular user into super admin, this is done by swapping role GUID in the authentication tables.

1) The person who was running the site either can't or won't tell me the Host password.  Is there a way to reset this password in the database?  I tried setting the admin account to IsSuperUser, but then I could not log in.  Is there more than one place I need to change this?

please read here http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/183/Default.aspx

2) Our hosting company had installed DotNetNuke in a folder called "ws" which was hidden from me and I could not make any changes to anything in it.  They have copied the "ws" folder into a subfolder in our directory called "dotnetnuke".  However when I access the "dotnetnuke" folder, it redirects to the "ws" folder.  Is the installed folder written in a file I can edit since all they did was copy.

you need to modify the portal alias in the PortalAlias table in your DNN database to fit to the new location.

I would like to get the current version working in the dotnetnuke directory and then go about upgrading that directory.

I always suggest to start with an upgrade. good luck!
