The best way to transfer your existing DNN installation is to obtain full MSSQL database backup and copy all the DNN installation files. To accomplish this you may need to contact your hosting provider depending on the level of access you have to the actual server.

This KB article describes what is necessary in order to transfer existing DNN installation to our service

https://support.ihostllc.net/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=40

Obviously depending on the hosting provider, the transfer procedure may differ.

If you could get a databae backup and a copy of the install files you could move the site with everything users included in tact. If you could get atleast ftp access then you could move all setup / images / files over, but would still miss out on your html content etc. If you could get host access to your site atleast you would be ok. Host account has rights to sql queries and we could at worse case have you run sql export commands to get your data out of the database. The whole key you really need to try and recover is the database it holds everything and I mean everything the file system will be helpful but is not 100% necessary if you still have the installs for any modules, you used / custom skins / images you have used. Granted having both is ideal, but without the database your a bit screwed, cause it has all the information.

I would work to see about getting a hold of the database if at all possible.

If its not possible, then you might have to look at rebuilding a new site with a new host and once its up and running rework your current install to redirect your users to your "new" site. Granted you will probably lose your archives and the forums will have to start semi fresh but it might be your only option.

I have had to do this in the past as well. Had a host that wanted to charge me 500 bucks for a backup of the database, cause they knew I wanted to leave. Long story short I had to rebuild and move my users over the manual hard way. I lost some of them in doing so, but eventually recovered them. Let me know if you want some more advice, on how to smooth the transition of your users over. If this comes the end result. mathomp3 at hotmail.com

I'm leading to guess that this might be an install on a multi-portal DNN install.  Each portal a different customer, probably not going to get a DB backup.
Hopefully the orginal poster has access to the DNS service at the least

Scott I agree but if the main host is MIA its something to push for. If the orginal poster could get atleast access to the db its possible to copy his stuff out of it. However I am with you that its not going to be a likely case at all. :(

Its one of the blights when it comes to multi-portal hosting solutions. Its one of the reasons I do seperate installs for each of my clients I host. Just so they are not tied to any other of my clients. I have split two clients apart in the past though, and its a nightmare to do at times but is possible.

You can split multi-homed installations by cloning database and DNN files, then manually removing references of duplicate portals from respective dnn clones. Since you have no access to the MSSQL and FTP this is a moot point.

Another method is to export the DNN portal in to a portal template. You must have host level of access to do this. The portal template can be applied on to new DNN installation, it will contain all the data for modules and page structure of the original portal as long as the modules are capable of emitting data. Before applying exported portal template, you must insure all the modules used on your original portal are installed and enabled in new dnn installation. Also, you will need to manually copy all the media files that were in original /portal/[portal id] folder to a new portal root folder.
