No they did not disclose it to us - thats what annoyed us.

After a few emails that were not getting anywhere, one of their guys called me (John) & said that they would make an update to stop it happening on our dedicated server.

If anyone else if having the same issue then run the scripts below on each DNN installation:

Host > SQL (make sure you tick the run as script box)

DELETE FROM [dbo].[Tabs]
WHERE TabName = 'Buy DNN Stuff'

DELETE FROM [dbo].[Tabs]
      WHERE TabName = 'Solutions'

(This will delete both of the pages with the PowerDNN links)

As Shaun mentioned in his "DotNetNuke Security Update" blog on May 28, the DNN team is taking some steps designed to help better communicate security details with users of DotNetNuke.  One of these steps included adding a security.dotnetnuke.com web alias which goes directly to the Security Policy page (update completed).

Another improvement includes enhancing "the Solutions Explorer within the DotNetNuke application so that there is an additional Security tab. This tab will display a feed pulled directly from our published security bulletins" (update underway).

If in the future you wish to receive timely and accurate security info via the Solutions Explorer directly to your website, my own recommendation is that you neither remove nor allow modifications to your Solutions Explorer link.

John,

I think I've been pretty vocal in supporting PowerDNN over the past 2-3 years, even through the security situation that occurred recently.

BUT, with that being said, I find it completely in bad judgement and poor professional practice that you would find it acceptable to inject site accessible items promoting PowerDNN items on your clients sites without first getting permission from site owners beforehand.

My judgement and personal opinion on PowerDNN has been lowered significantly with this practice.

Adski,

I ran your script but I am still seeing the "Buy DNN Stuff" menu item. Got any other tricks?

Ed,

After you run the script, you might need to restart the application to update the cache!

I had to restart the application to clear the cache:

Host > Settings > Restart Application (right down the bottom of the page)
