Going along that same line of thought, might there be some problems with the web.config file?  Specifically the part where you have to enter SQL information for "legacy" interface with the database?

What I'm trying to get at is that when you set it up to use SQL Express 2005, you use a different part of the web.config file to access the database.  But, there is also a line for "legacy" communications.  Could certain modules be trying to access the database using the old interface?

No, that is not hte issue with the forum module. If it is an issue, it would affect every other module or the core itself. This module does not use the legacy means for database connections.

I have given up too. I was said that DNN 4.0.2 has problems with various modules created for 3.x.x, so maybe it is better to use 3.x.x.

Here is the error code from the sys log for a "regular" user with e-mail notification enabled. This should be a notification e-mail being sent out, but of course it never went.  The test e-mail from the host acount configuration setting page is sent out without a problem, the "send Exception" e-mail from the log viewer screen is sent OK. No other e-mails have come through.  This is a new install of 4.0.2 on a GoDaddy hosting account - set up only a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the link contained in this log listing to explain the error code is not correct.

CRISPY - Does this help?

Ah something finally with a server response error.  :)  Error 451 from a SMTP server means that the server has accepted the connection and really wants to do something with it.  It can't for some reason though  and there are a bunch of reasons.

  • Bad From address (might not be in the form of someone@host.com)
  • Bad To address (not generally though)
  • Line ending in \n not \n\r (Number one killer) Lines should always end with carrage return and linefeed.)
  • SMTP Server droping the message as spam.
  • SMTP Server currently being overwhelmed and not processing your request before connection timeout.

I know, not much help but at least you have something to look at.
