Hie

I have created one dnn site and have completed it, now I need to do something special(or is it??) Read on.

I what to create another DNN site with similar contents as the first one on the same machine. I want to create another database copy all the contents of the other database into it. Create another DNN folder/installation which will point to this database.

I dont want to use the subportal feature for now, because the other site will be migrated at a later time, and contents will differ from now on.

How can I go about it??

Thx guys

You should be able to do this pretty easily:

  1. Backup your existing database and restore it to a new database.
  2. Update the HTTPAlias value in the PortalAlias table in the new database to have the correct value that you will bind the new IIS site too
  3. Take a copy of all your website files and copy then into a new directory
  4. Modify the 2 locations in web.config file to point to your new database you created in #1
  5. Create a new Website in IIS and point it to the directory created in #3 and configure it as an ASP.NET application and bind to the same address you specified in #2
  6. That should be it!

Anybody else shout up if I missed anything.

Thx for the info!!

I have done step number one. Took a bit of time as it was giving some errors(e.g. it can't overwrite exisiting files etc.) I went around that by 1. backing up the DB as you said (2) Detaching it from the server (3)Restoring the back up I made in one. Here also I had an error similar to the one above. I had to change the RestoreAs name under the Restore Options. After that it went smoothly and I restored the first database.

I will be going to Step 2 and will keep you posted.

Thx again!!
