I install DNN version 4.8.4 on a share hosting environment from package DNN_Install_4.8.4. At install process was no problem or error appear but when after finish the process by input Name & Password of Host and Admin account, they appear this dumb message:

DotNetNuke Error: - Version 04.08.04

An unhandled error has occurred.

I opened table EventLog in database and found some logging message at problem time. I can summary them in 2 message below:

  1. First message: <PropertyValue>DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnInit(EventArgs e) at DotNetNuke.Framework.PageBase.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---</PropertyValue>
  2. With the second message, I checked file '/Admin/Skins/Logo.ascx' to can sure about it existen and had code as same as original.

Hi,

Do you have any unnecessary virtual directories created under your main site in IIS? I saw something strange like this happening on someone's site because they had accidentally created a random virtual directory under their DotNetNuke site.

Take care,
