I have installed DNN on my domain and the first time I accessed it - it was very slow - but I understand this.  Now, if I click on the site it takes 15 to 30 seconds to come up.  If I shutdown my browser and then immediately re-access the site - it responds very well.  Is there some setting that I can change to make it snappier?

Get more users.  This is the just in time compiling of ASP.NET.  The page caches for 20 minutes, then is dumped if not requested again.  More traffic will solve this.  Otherwise you might use Keepalive.aspx in the root of the install.

if you are the owner of the server, you can access in IIS the recycle settings for the app pool of the web site and increasy or remove recycling of the app pool per time out.

The only time I have seen performance this slow is on shared hosting providers that really limit your app pool memory size. I just went through a huge issue sounding just like this with DiscountASP.Net where they state they are “ideal” for hosting DNN, but they limit your app pool size to 100 MB in size, after 100 MB is hit, it auto recycles the app pool. What was happening to my site is the app pool was restarting like one to two times per minute totally killing my performance.

Check your DNN events to see if you get a app start or app stop occurring frequently and this maybe the cause of your issue.
